abstract = "Due to the important role of phytoplankton in the carbon cycle in
the ocean, it is necessary to understand the relationships between
concentration and distribution of photosynthetic pigments and
physical and biological features that are easily obtained. In this
work, we use the BRASIL-SR radioactive transfer model to estimate
incident solar radiation over the sea surface with the aid of
GOES-8 data. The estimations will be correlated with available
cloud cover and sea surface temperature data (SST/AVHRR)and
correspond to monthly means for 1998 and 1999. The area to be
studied encompasses the whole Brazilian coastline (34,5 o to 55 o
W and 6 o to 34 o S). The main goal is to analyze the temporal and
spatial variability on the solar radiation, cloud cover and TSM
data in order to identify oceanic regions along the Brazilian
coast that present characteristic correlation values. The analysis
and interpretation of the results, will be performed by data
integration in a Geographical Information System (GIS).",
